Sex Drug Battles - Winners and Losers

The tussle for top dog status in the erectile dysfunction pill market continues.Sales and profit reports from the big 3 - Pfizer, Eli Lilly/ICOS and Bayer, show that Cialis is rapidly making up ground on Viagra, while the early growth of Levitra sales is levelling off.

The market shares over the last 12 month period to November 2005 show that Pfizer Viagra while down by 11% in market share, still dominates with a 60% impotency sex pill market share of a US 3 billion dollar market. Next comes Cialis with 25% a big jump up from 16%. Followed a distant third by Levitra up to 14% from 11 % last year.

The interesting fact is the $3 billion dollar market size accounted for by Pfizer Eli Lilly/ICOS and Bayer do not include the sale of either generic or herbal non pharmaceutical impotency boosting pills. Some analysts are suggesting the total market for the biggest blockbuster pills in history is a whopping US $5 to $6 Billion!!!

Has this put pressure on the big 3 manufacturers to make the ED pills more affordable in the biggest market of them all - USA? Not likely. The fight in suppressing generic erectile dysfunction treatments continues. Who is this fooling? Not many.

Recently the launch of Viagra in India was labelled a real flop. Even though Viagra is now available in India at substantially cheaper prices than in North America, the Indians' have shown they greatly prefer the Indian generic erectile dysfunction pills.

Also, peeping out from under the covers is the incredible growth in non traditional medicines like Libidus.

Has Pfizer realised too late that the rip off prices are unsustainable in a global economy? It is understood that the respected Indian pharmaceutical manufacturer, Ransbaxy spends a bigger percentage of their revenue on research than Pfizer. So let's not trot out that dead more research therefore higher prices argument as an excuse.

The issue is rip off pricing and the message is yet to overcome big pharma lobby groups before it can have an impact on American legislature. If generic pharmacies disappear then it's a no brainer to realise pharmacy prices will rocket up.A full review of online pharmacies is an interesting exercise to assist you to make up your own mind about who is doing the best job when it comes to public interest and service.
