A new television series: The Spouses of 'Big Love'
HBO takes on a polygamist's marriage in its latest series. Meet the family and boost Viagra sales in the process.
Bill Henrickson (played by Bill Paxton) takes a lot of Viagra, one every day to be exact.
Bill is a happy, healthy, over forty year old married man. He has no problems with his his libido—for a normal married man. The problem is that Bill is not a normal married man. He has 3 wives. Bill is a polygamist and his three wives: Barbara (Jeanne Tripplehorn), Nicki (Chloe Sevigny) and Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin), live in adjacent houses with a common backyard, so Bill's on a regular rotation—one night Barb, the next night Nicki, the next Margene.
Bill is in a male heaven. That's right Bill is like an Arab shiek with a harem and he's expected to hit a home run every night.
The Henricksons are the main characters in a new show called, "Big Love,", it could be called Viagra Boost juice. Just when we thought Viagra sales were beginning to plateau, along comes this new TV show that will certainly boost Viagra sales.
The "Big Love" show will debut in March 2006 on HBO. The network's biggest dramas have all focused on unorthodox families, from mobsters to undertakers. This is the first time it has focussed on polygamy. Says Tripplehorn. Though she was intrigued by the concept, she was not sure she could handle it. "I had a hard time finding a connection as to why a woman would share her husband. I didn't think I was up to the task. I didn't think I could make it real."
Despite the title and the Viagra, "Big Love" is only superficially about sex. The Henricksons are devoutly religious and wholesome offshoot of a Mormon group. Most of the action focuses on how Bill, who owns home-improvement stores in Utah, handles the day to day aspects of his very busy life.
It is intriguing to see how Bill manages to keep three women emotionally, as well as physically, satisfied.
Mormons are sensitive about being associated with polygamy and the Mormon Church disavowed the practice in 1890. "People really need to see it before they make an opinion," Tripplehorn says of the family in question. "You can't help but be fascinated by how they do this. It's an incredible feat of organization".
We will need to wait and see how Bill manages to keep it up!
